Spinal Decompression

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment for acute and chronic spinal pain associated with disc herniation, arthritis conditions, and sciatic leg pain.

Decompression is a result of an advanced applied traction called a “Pull Pattern Protocol” (Pull, Hold, Rest). This can be targeted to the injured area, and is designed to boost the spine’s natural healing process. It is safe and effective without the risks associated with invasive procedures such as infections, anesthesia or surgery. Preventatively, decompression maintains and keeps the discs healthy.

What Can I Expect with Spinal Decompression?

Non-surgical spinal decompression treatment sessions are constructed and tailored to the patient’s presenting condition. Each patient is prescribed a custom treatment plan. In most cases, treatments consist of 30, 8 -12 minute sessions ranging from 2 -3 times per week. After the first 8 treatments, the patient is re-evaluated to see the progression of treatment. The doctor may include adjunct therapies including: adjustments, ice, muscle stimulation, spinal rehabilitation, Neuro Muscular Re-education (NMR), massage, and heat therapy to supplement treatment.

Why Is Spinal Decompression Therapy So Effective?

The act of decompression allows for a better flow of blood and oxygen which enlivens the healing process and allows the bulging or herniated “disc material” to become reabsorbed, permitting the nerves to exit the spine more freely. Proper nerve flow is essential to all body functions.

What is Dr. Z’s Protocol?

Based on a comprehensive functional evaluation and its findings, the Dr. Z will determine the right bio mechanical position that best works for you. Along with positioning and initial assessment, a specific “Pull Pattern Protocol” is chosen.

Myths about Spinal Decompression:

Myth #1  “The Magic is in the Treatment Table”

FALSE!  While it is true that it takes a highly specialized piece of equipment to effectively administer the “Traction – Hold – Release” pattern inherent to spinal decompression treatment, the single most important factor in a patient’s success is a skilled physician, like Dr. Z

Myth #2  “Spinal Decompression is expensive.”

FALSE!  Many practices charge exorbitant rates as they prey upon people’s desire to be pain free. Dr. Z’s treatment plan is affordable, $30.00 per session, and can often be facilitated through insurance!
